Regional and sectoral structures of the Chinese economy: A network perspective from multi-regional input–output tables

A multi-regional input–output table (MRIOT) containing the transactions among region-sectors in an economy defines a weighted and directed network. Using network analysis tools, we analyze regional sectoral structure of Chinese with province-sector MRIOTs China 2007 2012. Global analyses are done topology measures. Growth-driving clusters identified community detection methods. Influential province-sectors ranked by PageRank scores. The results have revealed few interesting telling insights. level inter-province activities increased rapid growth national economy, but not as fast that intra-province economic activities. Regional structures were deeply associated geographical factors. heterogeneity across regions was high fragmentation during study period. Quantified metrics assessing relative importance echo development policies to certain extent.
