چکیده

Abstract A commercially available beaded activated carbon (KBAC) was selected for combination with a novel electrothermal swing system in examining the Joule heating effects on physical and chemical properties of its adsorption regenerability at various regeneration temperatures (120, 140, 160 °C) after saturation by toluene (TOL) methylethylketone (MEK). The specific surface area (1278 m 2 g ? 1 ) micropore volume (0.48 cm 3 KBAC one adsorption/desorption cycle were slightly reduced, while (1158 decreased significantly six cycles. It can be inferred that pores KBAC, especially micropores, are blocked heel buildup caused mainly formation cracked TOL MEK coke generated cyclic heating. desorption efficiencies TOL-KBAC MEK-KBAC (KBAC saturated MEK, respectively) evaluated per gravimetric method ranged from 55 to 80 85–90%, respectively, both showed great correlation between temperature efficiency. Notably, calculated integral based breakthrough curves 8 16% lower than those directly obtained gravitational MEK-KBAC, respectively. larger difference efficiency two methods is likely decomposition into CO or , which less prominent TOL-KBAC. In tests, capacities 6-cycle regeneration, such capacity reduced around 50%, retained 70% their respective original capacities. As aforementioned, blocks leads decreasing adsorption, TOL.

Activated carbon fiber cloth electrothermal swing adsorption system.

Capture and recovery of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from gas streams using physical adsorption onto activated carbon fiber cloth (ACFC) is demonstrated on the bench-scale. This system is regenerated electrothermally, by passing an electric current directly through the ACFC. The adsorbate desorbs from the ACFC, rapidly condenses on the inside walls of th...

Steady-state and dynamic desorption of organic vapor from activated carbon with electrothermal swing adsorption.

A new method to achieve steady-state and dynamic-tracking desorption of organic compounds from activated carbon was developed and tested with a bench-scale system. Activated carbon fiber cloth (ACFC) was used to adsorb methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) from air streams. Direct electrothermal heating was then used to desorb the vapor to generate select vapor concentrations at 500 ppmv and 5000 ppmv in a...

Adsorption of Volatile Organic Compounds from Aqueous Solution by Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) in Batch System

Chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatics are the major volatile organic compounds that contaminate the ground water and industrial waste waters. The best way to overcome this problem is to recover the dissolved compounds in water. In order to evaluate the potential ability of granular activated carbon (GAC) for recovery of volatile organic compounds from water, the equilibrium adsorption was inve...
