Referencing behaviours across disciplines: publication types and common metadata for defining bibliographic references

Abstract In this work, we investigate existing citation practices by analysing a huge set of articles published in journals to measure which metadata are used across the various scholarly disciplines, independently from particular style adopted, for defining bibliographic reference. We selected most cited each 27 subject areas listed SCImago Journal Rank 2015–2017 triennium according total cites ranking. Each journal sample was represented five (in PDF format) recent issue October 2019, 729 articles. extracted all 34,140 references lists these Finally, detected types works discipline and structure in-text reference pointers type work. By data gathered, observed that our referenced 36 different works. Such considerable variety publications revealed existence citing behaviours scientific varied area area.
