Recycling EVA Waste: An Opportunity for the Footwear Industry-Rheological Properties of EVA Waste Composites Using Torque Rheometry

Ethylene vinyl acetate blends (EVA-B) (at 19 and 28 wt% acetate) were supplied by the footwear industry, along with an industrial (reference) compound labeled EVA-ref. EVA waste is sub-product crosslinked (injection sprues unused midsoles), that was particulate through a micronization process as EVA-w. The objective of present work to evaluate processability rheological parameters (using torque rheometry) when adding EVA-w EVA-B. particle size distribution bimodal, average diameter 53.06 μm, volume (%) D (10), (50), (90) respectively equal 12.47, 31.83, 135.18 μm. However, this ample did not affect composite mixing. FTIR-ATR analysis showed no new crosslinking occurred after processing composites. Low unit mixing energy (Wu), mechanical (as represented ΔT values: stabilization temperature (Tstab)−test (Ttest)) required mix Consequently, dispersion particles within molten EVA-B during first 3 min mixing, making it easier. sensibility shear-thinning behavior more pronounced EVA-w, especially at 25 phr. m parameter smaller in composites compared EVA-ref, 35 phr, tendency increase. shear stress ( $$\overline{\tau }$$ ) 15 phr similar EVA-ref compound. Yet for higher value observed. made non-Newtonian less pronounced. For all samples, viscosity $$\overline{\upeta decreased rate $$\overline{\dot{\gamma } ), revealing pseudoplastic behavior.
