Recovery of xylan from Acacia mearnsii using ultrasound‐assisted alkaline extraction

چکیده

Novel and effective biorefinery methods are necessary to fractionate lignocellulosic biomass into separate components for the valorization of these value-added products. For example, xylan fraction can be used as an adhesive, a thickener, additive plastics, emulsifier, drug carrier, precursor prebiotic xylooligosaccharides. Unfortunately, conventional extraction procedures require lengthy periods characterized by poor product purity yields. In this study, non-conventional ultrasound-assisted alkaline method was developed from Acacia mearnsii, industrially relevant hardwood in South Africa. The effect additional ultrasonication step on evaluated. After this, basic structural analysis conducted both acacia extracts commercially available beech-derived xylan. Composition data showed acacia-derived glucuronoxylan have Ara:GluA:Xyl ratio 0.5:1:5, while that beechwood had 0:1:4 ratio. Ultrasound-assisted also gave better yield (24%) than (21%) quicker period 1 h versus 4 h. Finally, exhibited antioxidant potential, with EC50 value ≈1.5 mg/mL against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH). conclusion, successfully employed extract high-purity, bioactive acacia. purified is suitable replacement birchwood glucuronoxylan, which no longer available, or expensive substitute numerous applications.

Optimization of Microwave Assisted Alkaline Extraction of Xylan from Birch Wood Using Response Surface Methodology

The main purpose of this study was to optimize microwave assisted alkaline extraction of the hemicellulose, xylan, from birch wood. The simultaneous effects of process variables such as time (10 30 minutes), concentration of sodium hydroxide solution (4 8 wt%), solid to liquid ratio (1:8 to 1:20, g:mL), and sample size (5 10 g) on the temperature of the wood slurry, wood dissolution, and yield ...

Xylan extraction from pretreated sugarcane bagasse using alkaline and enzymatic approaches

Background New biorefinery concepts are necessary to drive industrial use of lignocellulose biomass components. Xylan recovery before enzymatic hydrolysis of the glucan component is a way to add value to the hemicellulose fraction, which can be used in papermaking, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Hemicellulose removal can also facilitate subsequent cellulolytic glucan hydrolysis. Results...

Determination of an Efficient Extraction Method of Xylan From Biomass

Sources •Biofuels are becoming more widespread throughout the United States as more advanced conversion methods become available. The most advanced process at this point is the conversion of biomass into ethanol (5). However, research into biofuels other than ethanol is an important aspect of the DOE’s mission to promote the spread of renewable energies. Before progress can be made in these are...

Efficient extraction of xylan from delignified corn stover using dimethyl sulfoxide

Xylan can be extracted from biomass using either alkali (KOH or NaOH) or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO); however, DMSO extraction is the only method that produces a water-soluble xylan. In this study, DMSO extraction of corn stover was studied at different temperatures with the objective of finding a faster, more efficient extraction method. The temperature and time of extraction were compared follo...
