چکیده
Problem definition: Fast recovery from sourcing interruptions is a key objective for global supply chains and business continuity professionals. In this paper, we study the impact of different chain strategies—supplier diversification use long-term relationships—on ability to recover interruptions. Academic/practical relevance: Improving chains’ has been an important focus area both practitioners academics. Our paper provides first rigorous large-scale empirical relating strategies Methodology: We develop compound estimator chain’s rate that can be constructed using limited data (only time series firms’ actual behavior). Using more than two half million import manifests, extract maritime transactions estimate rates firm-category publicly traded U.S. firms. Results: find supplier associated with slower interruptions, whereas relationships faster recovery. A one standard deviation decrease in former 16% recovery, like increase latter 20% Managerial implications: brings hitherto debate on chains. therefore actionable advice design

Responsible Sourcing in Supply Chains
We analyze the sourcing decision of a buyer choosing between two supplier types: responsible suppliers are costly but adhere to strict social and environmental responsibility standards, while risky suppliers are less expensive but may experience responsibility violations. A segment of the consumer population, called socially conscious, is willing to pay a higher price for a product sourced from...

In this section, we allow consumers’ base valuations for the product to be uniformly distributed on the interval [vl, vh], independent of consumer type (socially conscious or non-socially conscious), where V = vh vl is defined as the width of the consumer valuation distribution. Socially conscious consumers are assumed to have homogenous, additive willingness-to-pay for responsibility equal to ...

متن کاملProduction and pricing policies in dual sourcing supply chains
We analyze optimal production and pricing strategies in the single period (newsvendor) dual sourcing problem that entails local and offshore suppliers. The local supplier is used reactively as an emergency source following the realization of random demand. A multiplicative demand model is employed. We show that dual sourcing flexibility may decrease optimal price when emergency supply cost is s...
متن کاملComparing sourcing strategies in two-echelon supply chains
In this paper we investigate four sourcing models with respect to both cooperative or noncooperative planning strategies, and sole or dual sourcing. A two-stage supply chain is considered, which includes a single buyer and either a single or dual vendor(s). At the buyer the product is consumed at a constant rate, and an (r, Q) policy is used to generate replenishment orders. The vendors have a ...
