Reconfigurable Half-Mode SIW Antenna Using Uniaxial Field Programmable Microwave Substrate Structure

This communication presents the design and implementation of a beam steerable leaky wave antenna (LWA) based on integrated electronic devices (varactor diodes). The uses half-mode substrate-integrated waveguide (HMSIW) where short-circuited wall or PEC boundary is realized with field programmable microwave substrate (FPMS)-based unit cells. By virtue placing varactor diodes in these cells, wavenumber phase shift propagating signal can be controlled. allows steering 25° for fixed center frequency. Furthermore, control bias voltages direction over wide frequency bandwidth. An excellent agreement observed between simulated measured results, validating first ever FPMS-based reconfigurable design.
