Receptor-mediated vitellogenin binding to chicken oocytes.
The specific binding of vitellogenin to chicken oocyte membranes was characterized. This major hen serum phospholipoglycoprotein and one of its lower-molecular-weight components, phosvitin, bound to oocyte membranes with KD values of approx. 6 x 10-7 M. The optimum pH for binding was 6.0, the same as the pH of yolk contents. Phosvitin and vitellogenin compete with each other for binding; other ...

متن کاملAn unusual lysosome compartment involved in vitellogenin endocytosis by Xenopus oocytes
We have investigated the lysosomal compartment of Xenopus oocytes to determine the possible role of this organelle in the endocytic pathway of the yolk protein precursor, vitellogenin. Oocytes have lysosome-like organelles of unusual enzymatic composition at all stages of their development, and the amount of hydrolase activity increases steadily throughout oogenesis. These unusual lysosomes app...
متن کاملReceptor - mediated endocytosis
In 1934, Lewis described the process ofpinocytosis an invagination of the plasma membrane enclosing a small droplet of fluid. Pinocytosis appeared to be a constitutive process, whereas phagocytosis described some years earlier by Metchnikoffwas regulated. Only within the last two decades has it been recognized that (i) during pinocytosis cells internalize vast amounts of membrane. indeed, more ...
