Recent progress in electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide on metal single?atom catalysts

Electrochemical reduction reaction of CO2 (CO2RR) is a promising technology for alleviating the global warming caused by emission CO2. This technology, however, still in stage finding efficient catalysts. The catalysts must be able to convert other carbon-based products with high activity and selectivity valuable chemicals. In this review, previous development heteroatom-doped metal-free carbon materials (H-CMs) briefly summarized. Recent progress CO2RR promoted metal single-atom (M-SACs) then discussed emphasis on synthesis M-SACs, catalytic performance, mechanisms. temperature pyrolysis method electrodeposition are attracting attentions recently prepare M-SACs loading N-doped materials, very active system CO2RR. Theoretical calculations free energy change sites, Operando X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES), Bader charge analysis reveal significant role oxidation state transfer between atoms absorbed CO. challenges perspectives extensive applications also review.
