Recent advances in analytical methodologies based on mass spectrometry for the environmental analysis of halogenated organic contaminants

Halogenated organic contaminants, including legislated and potential persistent pollutants their precursors, represent a major environmental concern due to hazardous effects in humans wildlife as well ability bioaccumulate through the food chain, high resistance degradation, long-range atmospheric transport potential. The monitoring of these compounds environment at ultra-trace concentration levels requires highly selective sensitive analytical methodologies. lack reference step-by-step methods led number reliable determinations depending on analytes, complexity sample, available instrumentation. Thus, this review article is mainly focused last advances methodologies for determination halogenated contaminants. Methodologies regarding sample treatment, chromatographic separation, mass spectrometry analysis have been reviewed finally highlight future perspectives improvement throughput control laboratories field.
