چکیده
Abstract Recent large wildfires have caused serious environmental and social impacts in different areas of the world, such as Portugal, Greece Australia. Sociodemographic changes rural climate change issues create unprecedented challenging circumstances that call for an adjustment fire management strategies planning tools. In this research, we revise procedure to assess wildfire susceptibility hazard mainland Portugal a structural perspective. Based on dataset burned covering 44 years set predisposing factors related topography landcover, tested several models using Likelihood Ratio method, calculate favourability scores. Landcover classes were analysed national detailed sources considering timeframes. Hazard levels obtained by combining model with best accuracy probability burn estimated from history (1975–2018). The resulting values classified 5 based breaks success curve, instead quantiles previous maps, ensure territorial continuity at spatial scales. results show where combination terrain features is more favorable propagation. higher scores found shrubland-type vegetation, whereas agricultural areas, cork holm forests lower Eucalyptus maritime pine similar intermediate increased since 2007. two highest classify correctly 90% area over 44 years, demonstrating high model. If integrated instruments, conjunction municipal plans, most hazardous may hinder expansion built-up areas. About 2% municipalities than their territory hazardous, 32% have, instead, less 10% area. These maps are useful baseline long-term approach can be complemented estimations regarding behavior severity wildfires, which should further explored.

Wildfire Hazard Mapping Using Cellular Automata
Since fuel load is a major factor influencing wildfire risk, the standard approach to build related hazard maps is mainly grounded on land-cover data. However, the risk level is also influenced by other factors interacting nonlinearly, such as wind, fuel moisture, ignition sources and topography. For these reasons, an increasingly used approach for the computation of hazard maps involves the ex...
متن کاملRisk Externalities, Wildfire Hazard, and Private Investment to Mitigate Wildfire Risk in the Wildland-Urban Interface
Homeowners in areas adjacent to wildlands – in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) – can mitigate the risk that their home will be damaged in a wildfire by creating “defensible space” on their property. This article explores homeowners’ incentives to invest in defensible space using a unique data set on 35 WUI communities in Nevada. This is the first study to analyze homeowners’ incentives to in...

METHODS Data from the Health Services Central Administration of the Portuguese Ministry of Health on hospital admissions and hospital mortality in the National Health Service in mainland Portugal, from January 1st 2000 to December 31st 2010, were analysed. Cases with bronchial asthma as a mai...
متن کاملThe Genetic Makeup of Azoreans Versus Mainland Portugal Population
Since the first draft of the human genome we observed a boost in biomedical research. As consequence, nowadays, it is possible to know a person’s predisposition to a genetic disease or even how its organism will metabolize a given drug. Although, there is some delay in translating this knowledge to the development and implementation of personalized medicine, there are currently available some s...

In the field of wildfire risk management the so-called burn probability maps (BPMs) are increasingly used with the aim of estimating the probability of each point of a landscape to be burned under certain environmental conditions. Such BPMs are usually computed through the explicit simulation of thousands of fires using fast and accurate models. However, even adopting the most optimized algorit...
