Reasons for the Recent Onshore Wind Capacity Factor Increase

چکیده

Increasing wind capacity and factors (CF) are essential for achieving the goals set by Paris Climate Agreement. From 2010–2012 to 2018–2020, 3-year mean CF of global onshore turbine fleet rose from 0.22 0.25. Wind siting, technology, hub height, curtailed energy well-known drivers. However, extent these drivers is unknown. Thus, goal quantify shares four in development Germany as a case. Newly developed national power curves high-resolution speed models hourly market data basis study. We created scenarios, each with one driver kept constant at level, order share change between 2019–2021. The results indicated that rising heights increased 10.4%. Improved technology caused 7.3% higher CF. absolute increase amounted only 11.9%. It because less favorable sites curtailment later period moderated 2.1% 3.6%, respectively. mainly responsible perennial development. In contrast, variations resource availability drive enormous inter-annual variability. No multi-year was detected.

Wind energy potential assessment of Cameroon’s coastal regions for the installation of an onshore wind farm

For the future installation of a wind farm in Cameroon, the wind energy potentials of three of Cameroon's coastal cities (Kribi, Douala and Limbe) are assessed using NASA average monthly wind data for 31 years (1983-2013) and compared through Weibull statistics. The Weibull parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood, the mean power densities, the maximum energy carrying wind s...

Identifying key influences for planning acceptance of onshore wind turbines

There is a global drive to develop renewable energy power generation to reduce environmental impacts and enhance energy security especially through indigenous resources. Wind energy conversion both on and offshore is one of the most effective technologies to provide sustainable power. In the deployments of such technologies, geographical information systems are extensively used to identify suit...

High Capacity Factor Wind Energy Systems

Wind generated electricity can be fundamentally transformed from an intermittent resource to a baseload power supply. For the case of long distance transmission of wind electricity, this change can be achieved at a negligible increase or even a decrease in the per unit cost of electricity. The economic and technical feasibility of this process can be illustrated by studying the example of a win...

Comparison of Three Methods for Wind Turbine Capacity Factor Estimation

Three approaches to calculating capacity factor of fixed speed wind turbines are reviewed and compared using a case study. The first "quasiexact" approach utilizes discrete wind raw data (in the histogram form) and manufacturer-provided turbine power curve (also in discrete form) to numerically calculate the capacity factor. On the other hand, the second "analytic" approach employs a continuous...

Onshore wind farms maintenance optimization using a stochastic model

A specific feature of wind power generation is the stochastic behavior of wind velocity what determines the energy produced, and also influences the turbine degradation process due to the stochastic load suffered by the wind turbine. Thus, wind turbines present a degradation process more complex than the equipment that work under stationary conditions. The selection of maintenance strategy, that...
