Reasons and pattern of tooth extractions among 2-16 years old dental patients in Maiduguri: A retrospective study


 Objective: The study aimed to determine the reasons and pattern of tooth extractions among 2-16 years old dental out-patients in Maiduguri.
 Methods: was cross-sectional retrospective. population consisted children aged who had at least one extracted over a period two Child Dental Health Department University Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Ethical clearance obtained from Hospital Committee. Record patients seen January 2018 December 2019 were retrieved using pro-forma. Information included: patient’s age, gender, indication for extraction extracted.
 Results: A total 340 teeth hundred forty-four included study. 169 males 171 females. mean age subjects 8.76 ± 2.785years. caries complications leading reason (50%), followed by orthodontic reason, 129 (37.9%) then trauma, 16 (4.7%). More primary (311) than their permanent counterpart (29). mandibular right first molar mostly Conclusion: revealed that there is need improved oral health awareness promotion prevent early mortality.
