چکیده
Utilizing coral aggregate concrete (CAC) for construction on remote islands can significantly reduce cost and period, CO 2 emission, consumption of non-renewable energy. The durability reinforced CAC structures is critically influenced by their resistance to chloride attack. In this study, a reactive transport modelling was developed investigate ingress in CAC, which COMSOL-PHREEQC interface based MATLAB language established. experiment from the literature taken as benchmark example. results show that numerical model accurately predict CAC. Differing ordinary (OAC), Kuzel’s salt does not appear cement hydrate compounds during ingress. indicate penetration depth gradually increases exposure time prolonged. When exposed an external solution, decrease pH pore solution affects precipitation Friedel’s salt, detrimental chemical binding chloride.

1 Associate Professor of Structural Engineering College of Engineering, King Saud University Email: [email protected] Abstract – In Reinforced concrete structures chloride ion penetration is considered to be a major cause of corrosion of reinforcing bars. Conventional concretes fail to prevent the intrusion of moisture and aggressive ions adequately. The use supplementary cementing composite ma...
متن کاملA comprehensive probabilistic model of chloride ingress in unsaturated concrete
Corrosion induced by chloride ions becomes a critical issue for many reinforced concrete structures. The chloride ingress into concrete has been usually simplified as a di↵usion problem where the chloride concentration throughout concrete is estimated analytically. However, this simplified approach has several limitations. For instance, it does not consider chloride ingress by convection which ...
متن کاملModelling of Chloride Transport in Concrete by Cellular Automata
The paper presents cellular automata as a promising modeling approach to simulate the diffusion process as a 2D task. The proposed methodology is applied to the degradation assessment of civil engineering structures describing more realistically the spatial and temporal variability of harmful substance ingress (e.g. chloride ions in concrete). Some illustrative examples are presented together w...
متن کاملAutogeneous healing and chloride ingress in cracked concrete
An experimental study of the influence of autogeneous healing on chloride ingress in cracked concrete is presented. In the study, two concrete mixtures (a Portland cement mix and a blast furnace slag mix), two healing regimes (submerged and fog room regime), two cracking ages (14 and 28 days), and multiple crack widths are used as parameters. An adapted Rapid Chloride Migration testing procedur...
متن کاملModeling Chloride Penetration in Saturated Concrete
A mathematical model is established for chloride penetration in saturated concrete. The model takes into account various influential parameters such as water-to-cement ratio, curing time, types of cement, and aggregate content. Two material models are developed for binding capacity and chloride diffusivity, which have a dominant effect on the chloride diffusion process. The chloride binding cap...
