RE J 2248 - 511 - Not all variable , ultrasoft , X - ray AGN have narrow Balmer lines
We present ASCA data on RE J2248-511, extending existing optical and soft X-ray coverage to 10 keV, and monitoring the soft component. These data show that, despite a very strong ultrasoft X-ray excess below 0.3 keV and a soft 0.3–2 keV spectral index in earlier ROSAT data, the hard X-ray spectrum (α ∼ −0.8; 0.6-10 keV) is typical of type 1 AGN, and the soft component has since disappeared. Opt...
متن کاملThe Optical to X-ray Spectrum of the Broad-line Ultrasoft Agn Re J2248-511
We present a series of monitoring observations of the ultrasoft broad-line Seyfert galaxy RE J2248-511 with XMM-Newton . Previous X-ray observations showed a transition from a very soft state to a harder state five years later. We find that the ultrasoft X-ray excess has re-emerged, yet there is no change in the hard power-law. Reflection models with a reflection fraction of ≥ 15, and Comptonis...
متن کاملUltrasoft Narrow - Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies and X - ray Surveys
We describe how recent X-ray surveys have led to advances in the understanding of ultrasoft narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies. The number of known ultrasoft narrow-line Seyfert 1s has increased greatly in recent years due to X-ray surveys, and it is now possible to obtain high quality 0.1–10 keV spectral and variability measurements for a large number of these galaxies. We generalize some of the c...
متن کاملThe Unusual X-ray and Optical Properties of the Ultrasoft Agn Zwicky 159.034 (re J 1237+264)
Zwicky 159.034, one of the Seyfert galaxies identiied with EUV sources detected during the ROSAT Wide Field Camera (WFC) all-sky survey, has unusual properties. The ROSAT Position Sensitive Proportional Counter (PSPC) 0.1{2.5 keV X-ray spectrum, obtained simultaneously with the WFC survey, appears extremely steep. Subsequent deeper pointed observations with ROSAT revealed that its 0.1{2.5 keV c...
متن کاملBroad Iron Lines in AGN and X-ray Binaries
Several AGN and black hole X-ray binaries show a clear very broad iron line which is strong evidence that the black holes are rapidly spinning. Detailed analysis of these objects shows that the emission line is not significantly affected by absorption and that the source variability is principally due to variation in amplitude of a power-law. Underlying this is a much less variable, relativisti...
