Ratio of non-growing season to growing season N2O emissions in Canadian croplands: an update to national inventory methodology

چکیده

National inventory reporting of agricultural nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emissions in Canada is based primarily on measurements obtained using static chambers. In regions with cold winters and an accumulated snowpack (including Canada), these tend to focus the growing season (typically May–October). However, research has shown that continue throughout non-growing (NGS) account for a significant proportion annual emissions. Canadian Inventory NGS currently are assumed be adequately captured western Canada, while they accounted eastern by multiplying correction factor 1.4, value was derived limited number measurements. Here we use recent studies validate this factor. We collected data from available measured soil N O systems entire year determined occurred during NGS. The varied widely, ranging −4% 119% mean 35.5%, compared previous estimate 30%. Due high variability, few differences were observed between means associated climatic, soil, management variables. To correct soils, suggest current converting total changed 1.4 1.55 used all soils rather than just Canada.

Civil conflict sensitivity to growing-season drought.

To date, the research community has failed to reach a consensus on the nature and significance of the relationship between climate variability and armed conflict. We argue that progress has been hampered by insufficient attention paid to the context in which droughts and other climatic extremes may increase the risk of violent mobilization. Addressing this shortcoming, this study presents an ac...

A Study of Initial, Final and Growing Season Length in West of Iran

Objective: An increasing number of studies have reported on shifts in timing and length of the growing season, based on phonological, satellite and climatologically studies. Changes in the timing and length of the growing season (GSL) may not only have far reaching consequences for plant and animal ecosystems, but persistent increases in GSL may lead to long-term increases in carbon storage and...

Historical changes of temperature and vapor pressure deficit during the crop growing season in Iran

Climate change variables have rarely been analyzed specifically for the growing season of crops. In this study, changes in minimum (Tmin) and maximum temperature (Tmax), daily maximum saturated vapor pressure (VPsat) and estimated daily VPD weighted for transpiration (VPDtran) were examined at five locations in Iran over 40 years during the growing seasons of chickpea and maize. The results of ...

Performance of machinery in potato production in one growing season

Statistics on the machinery performance are essential for farm managers to make better decisions. In this paper, the performance of all machineries in five sequential operations, namely bed forming, stone separation, planting, spraying and harvesting in the potato production system, were investigated during one growing season. In order to analyse and decompose the recorded GPS data into various...
