Rating Potential Land Use Taking Ecosystem Service into Account—How to Manage Trade-Offs

چکیده
Rating the potential land use for crop production and/or ranching is typically a process where gains counterbalance environmental losses. Whereas are often easy to verify, losses may render visibility through changes in ecosystem service, such as water and habitat quality, carbon storage, etc., thus, leaving decision maker with multi-criteria problem. The present study demonstrates how partial-order methodology constitutes an advantageous tool rating/ranking that takes trade-offs into account. It demonstrated not only optimal choice of area, on average basis, e.g., production, disclosed, but also relative importance included indicators (production gains, losses). A short introduction given, applying data from recent Chinese looking monoculture function tradeoffs. more elaborate system esgame was used, disclosing most beneficial area ranching, well indicators’ importance. further single composite indicator obtained by simple aggregation values ranking lead result optimized; however, this comes at expense environment.

Effects of the land use change on ecosystem service value
The impacts of land utilization change on the ecosystem service values in Daqing during 1995 to 2015 were analyzed based on unit area ecosystem service value of Chinese territorial ecosystem from Mr. Xie Gaodi and ecosystem service value calculation formula from Costanza. Results showed that the ecosystem service value of Daqing decreased from US $4343.1559m in 1995 to US $3824.327m in 2015, wi...

Recent high-profile efforts have called for integrating ecosystem-service values into important societal decisions, but there are few demonstrations of this approach in practice. We quantified ecosystem-service values to help the largest private landowner in Hawaii, Kamehameha Schools, design a land-use development plan that balances multiple private and public values on its North Shore land ho...
متن کاملTrade-Offs in Multi-Purpose Land Use under Land Degradation
Land provides a host of ecosystem services, of which the provisioning services are often considered paramount. As the demand for agricultural products multiplies, other ecosystem services are being degraded or lost entirely. Finding a sustainable trade-off between food production and one or more of other ecosystem services, given the variety of stakeholders, is a matter of optimizing land use i...
متن کاملEcosystem service trade-offs and synergies misunderstood without landscape history
Dramatic changes in ecosystem services have motivated recent work characterizing their interactions, including identifying trade-offs and synergies. Although time is arguably implicit in these ideas of trade-offs and synergies (e.g., temporal dynamics or changes in ecosystem services), such interactions are routinely inferred based on the spatial relationships among ecosystem services alone (e....

Meeting human needs while sustaining the planet’s life support systems is the fundamental challenge of our time. What role sustenance of biodiversity and contrasting ecosystem services should play in achieving a sustainable future varies along philosophical, cultural, institutional, societal, and governmental divisions. Contrasting biophysical constraints and perspectives on human well-being ar...
