Specimen Provenance Complications in the Biopsy Evaluation Process
Standard identification systems usually ensure that biopsy material is correctly associated with a given patient. Sometimes, as when a tumor is unexpectedly found, the provenance (proof of origin) of a tissue sample may be questioned; the tissue may have been mislabeled or contaminated with tissue from another patient. Techniques used to confirm tissue provenance include comparing either tissue...
متن کاملOptimum diagnostic assay and clinical specimen for routine rotavirus surveillance.
Rates of detection of rotavirus were compared by diagnostic assay and specimen type. For bulk stools, rates of detection by reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) and enzyme immunoassay (EIA) were similar, but 18% of healthy controls tested positive by RT-PCR. Testing of bulk stools by EIA appears to be optimum for rotavirus surveillance.

Scientific Workflow Managements Systems (SWfMSs), such as our own research prototype e-BioFlow, are being used by bioinformaticians to design and run data-intensive experiments, connecting local and remote (Web) services and tools. Preserving data, for later inspection or reuse, determine the quality of results. To validate results is essential for scientific experiments. This can all be achiev...
متن کاملOverutilization and underutilization of thrombolysis in routine clinical practice.
This issue of the Journal includes an important new analysis of the TRACE (TRAndolapril Cardiac Evaluation) database that was set up to identify eligible patients for the subsequent randomized trial of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition in acute myocardial infarction (MI) (1). This database is unique in that the TRACE investigators identified and followed up an unusually high propor...
متن کاملDiagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome in routine clinical practice
The updated international consensus criteria for definite antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) are useful for scientific clinical studies. However, there remains a need for diagnostic criteria for routine clinical use. We audited the results of routine antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) in a cohort of 193 consecutive patients with aPL positivity-based testing for lupus anticoagulant (LA), IgG and Ig...
