Rate-Energy Tradeoff Analysis in RIS-SWIPT Systems With Hardware Impairments and Phase-Based Amplitude Response

This paper investigates the reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-empowered dynamic power splitting designs for simultaneous wireless information and transfer (SWIPT) systems while adopting various practical hardware issues. Specifically, we adopt physical size of RIS placement plane to phase-align reflected signals towards desired direction. The analytical phase shift model reflecting elements is presented characterize an intertwined relationship between amplitude responses, which captures variations depending on in elements. Furthermore, additive distortion noise incorporates residual transceiver impairments (RTHIs). stringent signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio requirement facilitated using both direct indirect, i.e., cascaded, links. To made complicated analysis become tractable, exploit statistical properties effective channel follows a Gamma distribution. tight bounds achievable rates energy are derived tradeoffs rate time switching static characterized. Finally, numerical results confirm accuracy developed framework demonstrate selection system parameters.
