RAPID COMMUNICATION Upper Limit for Quenching Rate Coefficient for cold electron–Metastable-Atom Collisions
A simple model based on 100% quenching of metastables by threshold electrons transmitted to short distances on the polarization potential is employed. Values of the quenching rate coefficients of 1.6 × 10−6 cm/s at threshold and 0.92× 10−6 cm/s at 50 K are estimated for electron collisions with metastable Xenon and 1.33× 10−6 cm/s at threshold for metastable Calcium. متن کاملOn Upper Limits for Gravitational Radiation
A procedure with a Bayesan approach for calculating upper limits to gravitational wave bursts from coincidence experiments with multiple detectors is described.
متن کاملComputing flux upper-limits for non-detections
If a source is not detected above some flux threshold (when expected to be present at a target position), how can one assign a plausible upper limit to its flux such that (i) it has precise probabilistic meaning; (ii) has a degree of confidence that is not subjective or arbitrarily conservative; and (iii) has no dependence on any prior knowledge about the flux? Unfortunately, the astronomical l...
متن کاملMagnetic Field Upper Limits for Jet Formation
Context. Very high magnetic fields at the surface of neutron stars or in the accretion disk of black holes inhibit the production of jets. Aims. We quantify here the magnetic field strength for the jet formation. Methods. By using, the Alfvén Radius, RA, we study what we call the basic condition, RA/R∗ = 1 or RA/RLSO = 1 (LSO, last stable orbit), in its dependency with the magnetic field streng...
