Rare Earth-bearing particles in fly ash carbons: Examples from the combustion of eastern Kentucky coals

نویسندگان

چکیده

Graphitic carbons from the combustion of bituminous coals and, perhaps, other coal ranks, tend to capture iron and a number hazardous elements, including As, Hg, Se. Rare earth elements in fly ashes occur minerals, such as monazite, xenotime, davidite. They also sub-nm particles, probably mineral form, within Al–Si glass on investigated ashes. Just graphitic can Fe surrounding ash magnetic particles captures or encapsulates broad suite rare elements.

Dissolution of Rare Earth Elements from Coal Fly Ash Particles in a Dilute H2SO4 Solvent

Recently, the worldwide supply of rare earth element (REE) resources will be severely restricted. On the other hand, coal fly ash particles emitted from coal-fired electric power plants contain relatively high concentrations of REEs. The contents of REEs in coal fly ash are regularly several hundreds of ppmw. In order to extract and recover REEs from coal fly ash particles, as a first step, we ...

Coal fly ash as a resource for rare earth elements

Rare earth elements (REE) have been recognised as critical raw materials, crucial for many clean technologies. As the gap between their global demand and supply increases, the search for their alternative resources becomes more and more important, especially for the countries which depend highly on their import. Coal fly ash (CFA), which when not utilised is considered waste, has been regarded ...

Electrodialytic removal of Cd from biomass combustion fly ash suspensions.

Due to relatively high concentrations of Cd, biomass combustion fly ashes often fail to meet Danish legislative requirements for recycling as fertilizer. In this study, the potential of using electrodialytic remediation for removal of Cd from four different biomass combustion fly ashes was investigated with the aim of enabling reuse of the ashes. The ashes originated from combustion of straw (t...

Carbonation of Brine Slurried Size Fractionated Coal Combustion Fly Ash

Coal combustion by-products such as fly ash (FA), brine and CO2 from coal fired power plants have the potential to impact negatively on the environment. Reaction of CO2 with FA/ brine slurry can potentially provide a viable route for CO2 sequestration through formation of mineral carbonates. Fractionated FA has varying amounts of CaO which not only increases the brine pH but can also be convert...
