Celiac disease (CD) is an immune mediated disorder characterised by intolerance to glutens in certain grains like whet, barley, and rye. The exposure gliadin protein component the susceptible individuals leads inflammatory reaction damaging small bowel mucosa with progressive disappearance of intestinal villi. damaged malabsorption. usual symptoms celiac include diarrhea, steatorrhea, weight loss, fatigue, abdominal pain. Diagnosis based on clinical features, duodenal biopsy, elevated levels anti-gliadin antibodies response gluten free diet. Contrary common belief, a systemic rather than merely pure digestive alteration. closely associated genes that code HLA -II antigens mainly DQ2 DQ8 classes, production specific (i.e., endomysial antibodies), multiorgan involvement, comorbidity other autoimmune diseases (shared autoimmunity), familial aggregation, system dysregulation. presentation can be variable. In mild form, patients almost asymptomatic whereas most severe are at increased risk life-threatening complications. has well-known association such as liver (autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, sclerosing cholangitis), diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, skin dermatitis herpetiformis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, psoriasis, sarcoidosis, thrombocytopenic purpura, pancreatitis. addition, may rare but potentially serious complications as, collagenous sprue, ulcerative jejunoileitis, refractory (RCD), enteropathy T-cell lymphoma, adenocarcinoma (SBA), hyposplenism, cavitating mesenteric lymph node syndrome (CMLNS). present article describes clinicopathologic features these disease.
