Multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) genotyping of human Brucella isolates in Malaysia
BACKGROUND Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonotic diseases worldwide. It can cause acute febrile illness in human and is a major health problem. Studies in human brucellosis in Malaysia is limited and so far no genotyping studies has been done on Brucella isolates. The aim of the study was to determine the genetic diversity among Brucella species isolated from human brucellosis, obtaine...
متن کاملModified MLVA for Genotyping Queensland Invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae
BACKGROUND Globally, over 800 000 children under five die each year from infectious diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. To understand genetic relatedness between isolates, study transmission routes, assess the impact of human interventions e.g. vaccines, and determine infection sources, genotyping methods are required. The 'gold standard' genotyping method, Multi-Locus Sequence Typing ...
متن کاملThe Rapid CAMP Test for Identification of Streptococcus agalactiae Using Alpha Toxin
Alpha toxin derived from Clostridium perfringens was used for diagnosis of Streptococcus agalactiae (St.agalactiae) by rapid and spot CAMP tests. The selected Cl.perfringens strain was cultured in optimized conditions; the supernatant of culture was concentrated by ultra filter and purified by DEAE cellulose chromatography. The efficacy of both purified and crude α-toxins were examined by rapid...
متن کاملMultiple-locus, variable number of tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) of the fish-pathogen Francisella noatunensis
BACKGROUND Since Francisella noatunensis was first isolated from cultured Atlantic cod in 2004, it has emerged as a global fish pathogen causing disease in both warm and cold water species. Outbreaks of francisellosis occur in several important cultured fish species making a correct management of this disease a matter of major importance. Currently there are no vaccines or treatments available....
متن کاملReevaluating the serotype II capsular locus of Streptococcus agalactiae.
We report a novel sequence of the serotype II capsular locus of group B streptococcus that resolves inconsistencies among the results of various groups and the sequence in GenBank. This locus was found in diverse lineages and presents genes consistent with the complete synthesis of the type II polysaccharide.
