Rapid methods for biochemical testing of anaerobic bacteria.
Rapid biochemical tests for nitrate, indole, gelatin, starch, esculin, and o-nitrophenyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside were performed on 112 strains of anaerobic bacteria. All tests were incubated under aerobic conditions, and results were recorded within 4 h. The tests for nitrate, indole, and starch showed a 95% or greater correlation when compared to the standard biochemical tests. Tests for escu...
متن کاملComparison of three procedures for biochemical testing of anaerobic bacteria.
The Analytab Products, Inc. (API), anaerobic multitest microsystem (MICRO) was compared with the Center for Disease Control conventional (CONV) thioglycolate (supplemented with hemin and vitamin K1) system and with pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized (PRAS) media as recommended by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Growth from a solid medium was suspended to produce standard inocula. Substrat...
متن کاملSemi-microtechnique for the biochemical characterization of anaerobic bacteria.
A semi-micromethod is described for characterizing anaerobic bacteria by substrate utilization. Small volumes of individual substrates were placed in the wells of plastic microtiter trays. When heavy inocula and a colorimetric indicator were used, complete results were available after 30 h of incubation. Microtiter trays containing a range of substrates can be stored at -20 degrees C. The metho...
متن کاملModified agar dilution method for rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing of anaerobic bacteria.
A simplified method has been developed for agar dilution antimicrobial susceptibility testing of anaerobic bacteria, designed to economize on time and money when only a few isolates need to be tested. The procedure is based on the principle of using filter paper disks as carriers of the antibiotic and 35- by 10-mm petri dishes which, when inoculated with the Steers replicator, can test up to fo...
متن کاملThree rapid methods compared with a conventional method for detection of urease production in anaerobic bacteria.
Three rapid methods (spot test, disk, and tube) for detecting urease production in anaerobic bacteria yielded results faster than the conventional method. The results were more consistent with the disk and tube methods than with the spot test. Blood agar plate growth gave more consistent results than growth from chopped-meat slants.
