چکیده
ExoFit trials are field campaigns financed by ESA to test the Rosalind Franklin rover and enhance collaboration practices between ExoMars working groups. During first trial, a replicate of was remotely operated from Oxfordshire (United Kingdom) perform complex sequence scientific operation at Tabernas Desert (Spain). By following Reference Surface Mission (RSM), investigated Badlands subsoil collected drill cores, whose analytical study entrusted RLS (Raman Laser Spectrometer) team. The preliminary characterization core samples performed in situ through Engineering Qualification Model (EQM-2) Raman Demonstrator (RAD1), being this new, portable emulator RLS. In results where then complemented laboratory analysis using simulator commercial version Curiosity/CheMin XRD system. data, obtained closely simulating operational constraints mission, successfully disclosed mineralogical composition samples, reaching detection minor/trace phases that were not detected XRD. More importantly, many vibrational peaks potentially emitted organic functional groups, thus suggesting presence microorganisms arid sub-surface Desert. light forthcoming here presented proves could play critical role Martian environments potential traces live.

Labile carbon in biological soil crusts in the Tabernas desert, SE Spain
Decomposition processes are extremely important in biological soil crusts (BSCs). Although the effects of temperature and moisture on such processes have been widely studied, little is known about the influence of the readily metabolizable substrate (labile C) and how this substrate varies in different types of BSCs. In the present study, BSCs formed by cyanobacteria (CYANO) and by lichens (DIP...
متن کاملRemote Uv Raman Spectroscopy for Planetary Exploration Using a Miniature Spatial Heterodyne Raman Spectrometer
Overview: Raman spectroscopy is ideally suited for planetary exploration, because Raman spectra provide detailed molecular and structural information, very useful for geochemical measurements as well as to measure organic and inorganic biomarkers in the search for past or present life on other planets [1]. Raman scattering, a very weak process, can be relatively strong at deep UV wavelengths be...
متن کاملRaman Spectroscopy System for Mineral Analysis on Planetary Surfaces
There is currently a need for a landerbased or rover-based instrument to characterize minerals on planetary surfaces due to future missions planned to the moon and Mars. Several papers have proposed a Raman spectroscopy system for such instrument because of many advantages of its many advantages over other techniques. In this paper, three Raman spectroscopy systems developed by three different ...
متن کاملThe Cyborg Astrobiologist: Testing a Novelty-Detection Algorithm on Two Mobile Exploration Systems at Rivas Vaciamadrid in Spain and at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah
In previous work, a platform has been developed for testing computer-vision algorithms for robotic planetary exploration (McGuire et al. 2004b,2005). This platform consisted of a digital video camera connected to a wearable computer for real-time processing of images at geological and astrobiological field sites. The real-time processing included image segmentation and the generation of interes...
