Abstract There currently does not exist in industry a reliable method for the detection of rail foot flaws. Like their head-based counterparts, flaws result broken with potentially catastrophic consequences. A proposed area research these is thermography, non-contact measuring and analysing infrared emissions from an object under test. In industry, active excitation thermography most common, requiring source. This paper will present temperature measurement system transient extraction running rails effects passing train to evaluate heat transfer practical environment. The outcomes results provide future direction development model determine if passage provides enough thermography-based technique.
