Radiographic assessment of the prevalence and pattern of impacted teeth in Kanyakumari population using orthopantomogram- A retrospective study

Background: The present study was aimed to record the incidence of each distinctive impacted tooth by reviewing panoramic radiographs. Materials and methods: In 10-year records (2012 2021) 4000 radiographs were obtained from Department Oral Medicine Radiology, Sree Mookambika Institute Dental Sciences (SMIDS), Kanyakumari. From data collected, 442 patients` fulfilled inclusion criteria 627 impactions detected classified accordingly. results tabulated statistically analyzed. Results: A total found with 15.7% prevalence. Males had higher number teeth than females a small margin. Mandibular third molar (69.26%) be most commonly followed canine (14.8%), maxillary (9.39%), premolar (3.0%), supernumerary (2.1%) incisors (1%). Horizontal pattern (69.9%) reported impaction mandibular molar. maxilla, vertical (63%) common pattern. also revealed that portion lies in mandible (78.3%) maxilla (21.6%). Conclusion: Impacted congenitally missing are phenomenon nowadays. Many patients at their later age dental surgeon due pain infection teeth. This designed evaluate prevalence around Kanyakumari district. With more 15% adults, it is wise do imaging suspected prevent further complications like pain, cystic transformation.
