Radio galaxy zoo EMU: Towards a semantic radio galaxy morphology taxonomy

نویسندگان

چکیده

We present a novel natural language processing (NLP) approach to deriving plain English descriptors for science cases otherwise restricted by obfuscating technical terminology. address the limitations of common radio galaxy morphology classifications applying this approach. experimentally derive set semantic tags Radio Galaxy Zoo EMU (Evolutionary Map Universe) project and wider astronomical community. collect 8,486 annotations morphology, from which we taxonomy tags. The are English. result is an extensible framework more flexible, easily communicated, sensitive rare feature combinations indescribable using current astronomy classifications.

The Microjansky Radio Galaxy Population

We use highly spectroscopically complete observations of the radio sources from the VLA 1.4 GHz survey of the Hubble Deep Field-North region to study the faint radio galaxy population and its evolution. The fraction of radio sources that can be optically spectroscopically identified is fairly independent of radio flux, with about 60−80% identified at all fluxes. We spectrally classify the sourc...

Gravitationally Lensed μJy Radio Sources towards Galaxy Clusters

Galaxy clusters are expected to gravitationally lens background radio sources. However, due to the smaller surface density of radio sources, when compared to optical galaxies, such lensed events are rare. For an example, it is expected that there is no lensed radio source due to foreground galaxy clusters in the 1.4 GHz VLA FIRST survey. However, at the μJy level, the surface density of radio s...

Spectroscopic Confirmation of A Radio - Selected Galaxy

We report the discovery of a galaxy overdensity at z = 1.11 associated with the z = 1.110 high-redshift radio galaxy MG 0442+0202. The group, CL 0442+0202, was found in a near-infrared survey of z > 1 radio galaxies undertaken to identify spatiallycoincident regions with a high density of objects red in I − K ′ color, typical of z > 1 elliptical galaxies. Spectroscopic observations from the Kec...

3C66B as a TeV radio-galaxy

The MAGIC collaboration reported the detection of a new VHE source, MAGIC J0223+430, located close to the position of the blazar 3C66A, considered a candidate TeV blazar since a long time. A careful analysis showed that the events with energies above 150 GeV are centered on the position of the FRI radiogalaxy 3C66B (at 6 arcmin from 3C66A), with a probability of 95.4% (85.4% including systemati...
