Radio emission in a nearby, ultra-cool dwarf binary: A multifrequency study

چکیده
Context. The substellar triple system VHS J125601.92−125723.9 (hereafter 1256−1257) is composed of an equal-mass M7.5 brown dwarf binary and L7 low-mass object. In Guirado et al. (2018, A&A, 610, A23) we published the detection radio emission at 8.4 GHz coming from central making it excellent target for further observations. Aims. We aim to identify origin occurring in 1256−1257 while discussing expected mechanisms involved ultra-cool dwarfs. Methods. observed this with Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, European very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) Network, enhanced Multi-Element Remotely Linked Interferometer NOrthern Extended Millimeter Atacama Millimetre Array frequencies ranging 5 up 345 several epochs during 2017, 2018, 2019. Results. found 6 33 coincident position 1256−1257. Stokes I density fluxes detected were 73 ± 4 μJy 83 13 μJy, respectively, no detectable circular polarisation or pulses. No higher (230 GHz), nor VLBI arrays. appears be stable over almost three years GHz. To explain constraints obtained both detections non-detections, considered multiple scenarios including thermal nonthermal emission, different contributions each component binary. Conclusions. Our results can well explained by gyrosynchrotron originating radiation belts a low plasma ( n e = 300−700 cm −3 ), moderate magnetic field strength B ≈ 140 G), energy distribution electrons following power-law (d N /d E ∝ − δ ) fixed 1.36. These would need present components also viewed equatorially.

Radio Emission from Cool Stars
Recent developments in the study of radio emission from cool stars are reviewed. The eld of stellar radio astronomy would barely exist if active cool stars were similar to the Sun. However, many active stars appear to be fundamentally diierent from the Sun in that they possess a nonthermal corona which produces strong and steady radio emission. That is, in addition to the thermal populations at...
متن کاملGeV emission from the nearby radio galaxy Centaurus A
EGRET has detected 67 sources associated with active galactic nuclei. With the exception of radio galaxy Cen A, all are classified as belonging to the blazar class of active galactic nuclei. The cumulative exposure from multiple EGRET observations has provided the first clear detection of Centaurus A. Unlike the γ-ray blazars seen by EGRET which are believed to exhibit near-alignment of the cen...

A Spectroscopic Study of Cool, Field Brown Dwarf Neighbors
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), Two Micron Sky Survey (2MASS) and Deep Near Infrared Survey (DENIS) have already found many dozens of brown dwarfs in the late 1990s. Many of the new spectral class of L dwarfs show undepleted lithium, which indicates that their deep interiors are not hot enough to fuse protons. Methane or T dwarfs with surface temperatures near 1,000 K have also been found ...
متن کاملThe very nearby M / T dwarf binary SCR 1845 - 6357 ?
Context. The recently discovered star SCR 1845-6357 (hereafter SCR 1845) is the first late M/T dwarf binary discovered. SCR 1845 is a particular object due to its tight orbit (currently around 4 AU) and its proximity to the Sun (3.85 pc). Aims. We present spatially resolved VLT/NACO images and low resolution spectra of SCR 1845 in the J, H and K near-infrared bands. Since the T dwarf companion,...
