Radially polarized 33 W emission from a double-pass Ho:YAG thin-slab amplifier

The generation of a 33.7 W radially polarized output is demonstrated by way double-pass amplification in Ho:YAG thin-slab crystal. amplifier system was seeded with the beam from continuous-wave 13.2 W, 2.1 µm rod laser, which exploited gain medium bifocusing and ring-shaped pump spot to promote preferential lasing on Laguerre–Gaussian mode. By compensating for both thermally induced stress birefringence crystal Gouy phase shift resulting astigmatic focusing seed, only marginal degradation observed across 95 range power into amplifier.

The multimode and depolarized output beam of a highly multimode diode-pumped Yb-doped fiber amplifier is converted to a diffraction-limited, linearly polarized beam by a self-referencing two-wave-mixing process in an infrared-sensitive photorefractive crystal (Rh:BaTiO3).
