(R)-(−)-Quinuclidin-3-ol

The structure of the title compound [alternatively called (R)-(-)-1-aza-bicyclo-[2.2.2]octan-3-ol], C7H13NO, at 100 K has hexa-gonal (P61) symmetry. The structure shows a twist along the C-N pseudo-threefold axis. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains along the c-axis direction. The crystal studied was twinned by merohedry (twin law: 010, 100, 0...

2-Aminopyridin-3-ol

The molecule of the title pyridine derivative, C(5)H(6)N(2)O, shows approximate C(s) symmetry. Intra-cyclic angles cover the range 118.34 (10)-123.11 (10)°. In the crystal, O-H⋯N, N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into double layers perpendicular to the a axis. The shortest centroid-centroid distance between two π-systems is 3.8887 (7) Å.

3-Methylamino-3-phenylpropan-1-ol

The title compound, C(10)H(15)NO, is an amino alcohol with the hy-droxy group residing on the terminal C atom. Apart from the hy-droxy group and the phenyl ring, all non-H atoms are almost coplanar. In the crystal, classical O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers [R(2) (2)(12) descriptor] and tetra-meric units [R(4) (4)(8) descriptor] as ring motifs, c...

2-(Hydroxymethyl)pyridin-3-ol

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(6)H(7)NO(2), the mol-ecules are are linked by inter-molecular O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds; π-π stacking is observed between parallel pyridine rings of adjacent mol-ecules [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.7649 (12) Å].

Conversion of Sa-Cholestan-3@-ol to ~‘-5~-Cholesten-3~-ol in Cockroaches*

Detailed studies of the sterol requirement of the carnivorous beetle Dermestes vulpinus (1) which have been carried out in this laboratory have indicated that up to 97% of the normal dietary cholesterol requirement of this insect may be replaced by a number of other sterols. One of the compounds capable of sparing but not completely replacing cholesterol in the diet of these insects is cholesta...
