Quiet Night Arctic Ionospheric D Region Characteristics

چکیده
VLF radio propagation recordings are used to determine the characteristics of nighttime polar lower D region ionosphere. Recordings both phase and amplitude in Arctic on days within ?1–2 weeks equinoxes enable their day-to-night changes be determined. These then combined with previously measured daytime find characteristics. The determined were summer; NRLMSISE atmosphere model is help height change from summer equinox (?5 km lower). principal path was 16.4 kHz Norwegian transmitter JXN (67°N, 14°E) 1,334 northwards across Ocean Ny-Ålesund (79°N, 12°E), Svalbard. Also 2,014-km NRK (37.5 kHz, Grindavik, 64°N, Iceland) Ny-Ålesund, 1,655-km Reykjavik (64°N, Iceland), 5,302-km Fairbanks (65°N) Alaska. night values (the Wait parameters) H? ? found average ?79 at down 77 near winter solstice (lower than 85 low midlatitudes by ?7 km) 0.6 km?1, respectively. This its variability shown consistent source ionization being energetic electron precipitation.

High-latitude ionospheric currents during very quiet times: their characteristics and predictability
CHAMP passes the geographic poles at a distance of 2.7 in latitude, thus providing a large number of magnetic readings of the dynamic auroral regions. The data of these numerous overflights were used for a detailed statistical study on the level of activity. A large number of tracks with very low rms of the residuals between the scalar field measurements and a high degree field model were singl...
متن کاملSolar quiet day ionospheric source current in the West African region
The Solar Quiet (Sq) day source current were calculated using the magnetic data obtained from a chain of 10 magnetotelluric stations installed in the African sector during the French participation in the International Equatorial Electrojet Year (IEEY) experiment in Africa. The components of geomagnetic field recorded at the stations from January-December in 1993 during the experiment were separ...
متن کاملSearch for magnetically quiet CHAMP polar passes and the characteristics of ionospheric currents during the dark season
The magnetic activity at auroral latitudes is strongly dependent on season. During the dark season, when the solar zenith angle in the polar region is larger than 100 at all local times, the ionospheric conductivity is much reduced, and generally low activity is encountered. These time intervals are of special interest for the main field modelling, because then the geomagnetic field readings, i...
متن کاملIntra-night Optical Variability of Luminous Radio Quiet QSOs
In the present paper we report the detection of intra-night variability in some of the radio-quiet quasi-stellar objects (RQQSOs) and one lobe dominated radio-loud quasi-stellar object (LDQ). To study intra-night variability, we carried out photometric monitoring of seven RQQSOs and one LDQ in Johnson V-passband using 1.2 meter optical/IR telescope at Gurushikhar, Mount Abu, India. Observations...
متن کاملIonospheric F-region storms: unsolved problems
Befitting the venue of this meeting, we first investigate the polar ionosphere. The most pressing problem here is that no reliable description of this region is available, not even for undisturbed conditions. To improve on this situation we have investigated the properties of some of the more prominent anomalies observed in this region, including the heating effect below the magnetospheric cusp...
