The parable of the Pharisee and tax collector (Luke 18:9-14) contains an enigmatic expression παρ’ ἐκεῖνον (v.14) which conveys final judgment on characters. It is not entirely clear whether it should be interpreted in a comparative or exclusive sense. present study aims to examine way narrator presents two characters parable, collector, as well content their prayers. Narrative criticism suggests that although both interpretations (comparative exclusive) are possible might better construe with distinctive value. In fact, new condition different from his previous one clearly distinguishes him Pharisee. other words, application narrative method translate complement such makes visible difference existing between
