Quasiperiodic Oscillation in Short Gamma-Ray Bursts from Black Hole–Neutron Star Mergers

چکیده
Abstract Short-duration gamma-ray bursts (sGRBs) are commonly attributed to the mergers of double neutron stars (NSs) or a star with black hole (BH). While former scenario was confirmed by event GW170817, latter remains elusive. Here, we consider in which an NS is tidally disrupted fast-spinning low-mass BH and accretion onto launches relativistic jet hence produces sGRB. The merging binary’s orbit likely misaligned BH’s spin. Hence, Lense–Thirring precession around may cause hyperaccreting thick disk precess solid-body manner. We propose that jet, initially aligned spin, deflected collimated wind from disk, therefore being forced along disk. This would result quasiperiodic oscillation modulation light curve sGRB, quasi-period ∼0.01–0.1 s. appearance be delayed respective triggering curve. feature, unique BH–NS merger, have already revealed itself few observed sGRBs (such as GRB 130310A), it carries spin–orbit orientation information system. Identification this feature new approach reveal systems, missed current gravitational-wave searching strategy principally targeting systems.

Gamma-ray Bursts from Neutron Star Mergers
Binary neutron stars merger (NSM) at cosmological distances is probably the only γ-ray bursts model based on an independently observed phenomenon which is known to be taking place at a comparable rate. We describe this model, its predictions and some open questions. Cosmological γ-Ray Bursts and Fireballs Compton-GRO has demonstrated, quite convincingly, that γ-ray bursts (grbs) originate from ...

We present the discovery observations for the optical counterpart of the γ-ray burster GRB 970508 and an analysis of its light curve and of the HST imaging data. We also present a detailed analysis of the HST images claimed to show a proper motion of the optical counterpart of GRB 970228 and conclude that, within the uncertainties, there is no proper motion. We examine several aspects of the ne...
متن کاملGamma-ray bursts from accreting black holes in neutron star mergers
By means of three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations with a Eulerian PPM code we investigate the formation and the properties of the accretion torus around the stellar mass black hole which originates from the merging of two neutron stars. The simulations are performed with four nested cartesian grids which allow for both a good resolution near the central black hole and a large computational...
متن کاملBlack Hole-Neutron Star Mergers as Central Engines of Gamma-Ray Bursts.
Hydrodynamic simulations of the merger of stellar mass black hole-neutron star binaries are compared with mergers of binary neutron stars. The simulations are Newtonian but take into account the emission and back-reaction of gravitational waves. The use of a physical nuclear equation of state allows us to include the effects of neutrino emission. For low neutron star-to-black hole mass ratios, ...
متن کاملIntracluster Short Gamma-ray Bursts by Compact Binary Mergers
One of the possible origins of short gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs) is merging of compact binaries, and the effect of large kick velocity is a signature that can be used as an observational test for this hypothesis. Intracluster SGRBs that escaped from a host galaxy in a galaxy cluster are interesting in this context, since they would escape more easily by cluster tidal force, and would have brighter...
