Soft-Output Decoding Algorithms in Iterative Decoding of Turbo Codes
In this article, we present two versions of a simplified maximum a posteriori decoding algorithm. The algorithms work in a sliding window form, like the Viterbi algorithm, and can thus be used to decode continuously transmitted sequences obtained by parallel concatenated codes, without requiring code trellis termination. A heuristic explanation is also given of how to embed the maximum a poster...
متن کاملSoft-input soft-output decoding of variable length codes
We present a method for utilizing soft information in decoding of variable length codes (VLCs). When compared with traditional VLC decoding, which is performed using “hard” input bits and a state machine, the soft-input VLC decoding offers improved performance in terms of packet and symbol error rates. Soft-input VLC decoding is free from the risk, encountered in hard decision VLC decoders in n...
متن کاملFast soft-output Viterbi decoding for duo-binary turbo codes
In this article, we describe the implementation of a Soft-Output Viterbi Decoder for an eight-state duo-binary code. This decoder is to be used in a turbo-decoder for convolutional codes. The implementation was made with the Synopsys environment and targeted a 0.18 m technology. The layout obtained has a working frequency of 150 MHz and thus an output data rate of 300 Mbits/s.
متن کاملLow-complexity soft-decoding algorithms for Reed-Solomon codes-part II: soft-input soft-output iterative decoding
In this work we present a practical approach to the iterative decoding of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes. The presented methodology utilizes an architecture in which the output produced by steps of Belief-Propagation (BP) is successively applied to a legacy decoding algorithm. Due to the suboptimal performance of BP conducted on the inherently dense RS parity-check matrix, a method is first provided f...
متن کاملAn Iterative Soft-Input Soft-Output Decoding Algorithm for Linear Block Codes
In this paper, reduced-complexity trellis-based soft-input soft-output (SISO) decoding of linear block codes is considered. A new low-weight subtrellis based SISO decoding algorithm for linear block code to achieve near optimal error performance with a significant reduction in decoding complexity is presented. The proposed scheme is suitable for iterative decoding of linear block codes when use...
