Quantitative Studies on PDMS-PDMS Interface Bonding with Piranha Solution and its Swelling Effect
In this paper, a low-cost yet effective method of irreversible bonding between two elastomeric polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) interfaces using Piranha solution is investigated. Piranha solutions at a weight ratio of 3:1 using different acids and hydrogen peroxide were attempted. The average tensile strengths of the device bonded with concentrated sulfuric acid-based piranha solution and nitric aci...
متن کاملMicrochannel deformations due to solvent-induced PDMS swelling.
The compatibility of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) channels with certain solvents is a well known problem of soft lithography techniques, in particular when it leads to the swelling of the PDMS blocks. However, little is known about the modification of microchannel geometries when they are subjected to swelling solvents. Here, we experimentally measure the deformations of the roof of PDMS microch...
متن کاملAdhesive-based bonding technique for PDMS microfluidic devices.
We present a simple and inexpensive technique for bonding PDMS microfluidic devices. The technique uses only adhesive tape and an oven; plasma bonders and cleanroom facilities are not required. It also produces channels that are immediately hydrophobic, allowing formation of aqueous-in-oil emulsions.
متن کاملPlastic-PDMS bonding for high pressure hydrolytically stable active microfluidics.
We explore the application of organofunctional silanes for bonding plastic substrates to PDMS membranes. Such devices would enable actuated membrane microfluidics in plastic devices. Bond strength degradation in aqueous environments can be reduced by using bis-silanes with larger alkoxy end groups to promote organofunctional bond formation with the plastic substrate. Hydrolytic failure can also...
متن کاملOn gas permeation in PDMS
A theoretical model of gas permeation in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is conducted for two prior works involving MEMS sensors and actuators. The issue for modeling a sensor is about using PDMS slabs to replace Pyrex glass as the packaging substrate for bulk-micromachined pressure sensors. The leakage pressure due to gas permeation in PDMS reveals the time-varying behavior of exponential decay. T...
