چکیده

Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in a deglaciating environment, representing significant threat to downstream people and infrastructure, increasing the necessity of prioritization assessment potentially critical glacial lakes (PCGLs). In this current study, comprehensive updated inventory for Indus River basin has been prepared, resulting 5335 (? 0.0025 ± 0.0006 km2), covering total area 173.95 10.13 km2. Parameters have derived using satellite data two purposes, ‘preliminary screening’ ‘quantitative assessment’. Using 4 parameters, 367 were preliminary screened-in further analysis, 6 quantitative parameters analysed Equal Weights (EW) Unequal methods (UEW). These both applied scenarios, scenario-1 which considers 73 0.1 scenario-2 all 0.02 km2). Spatial Database Development of Glaciers and Glacial Lakes in the Identification of Potentially Dangerous Glacial Lakes of Nepal Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Spatial and attribute database of the glaciers and glacial lakes of whole Nepal had developed by ICIMOD in collaboration with UNEP/RRC-AP in 2001 using remote sensing and geographic information systems techniques. There are altogether 3,252 glaciers covering an area of 5,322 square kilometer with approximately 481 km of ice reserves. The Mahakali River basin comprises 87 glaciers with an area o...

Quantitative assessment of relative tectonic activity in the Alamarvdasht river basin, south of Iran

Tectonic processes are major factors controlling landform development in tectonically active areas. In order to evaluate quantitative measurement of tectonic activities in the Alamarvdasht basin in the south of Iran, six different morphological indices including stream-gradient index (SL), drainage basin asymmetry (Af), hypsometric integral (Hi), valley floor width-valley height ratio (Vf), dra...

Sensitivity of glacier runoff projections to baseline climate data in the Indus River basin

Quantifying the contribution of glacier runoff to water resources is particularly important in regions such as High Mountain Asia, where glaciers provide a large percentage of seasonal river discharge and support large populations downstream. In remote areas, direct field measurements of glacier melt rates are difficult to acquire and rarely observed, so hydro-glaciological modeling and remote ...
