Undenatured parvovirus B19 antigens are essential for the accurate detection of parvovirus B19 IgG.

Recombinant versions of parvovirus B19 capsid proteins VP1 and VP2 are used for immunodiagnostic assays for detection of antiviral antibodies. The immune response to B19 is characterized by a gradual loss of antibodies directed against linear epitopes of VP2. A similar occurrence for antibodies raised against VP1 protein would represent a limitation to serological assays incorporating denatured...

Parvovirus B19.

N Engl J Med 2004;350:586-97. Copyright © 2004 Massachusetts Medical Society. vonne cossart, an australian virologist working in london in the mid-1970s, noted an anomalous reaction of a normal blood donor’s serum (occupying position 19 in plate B) in an assay for hepatitis B. When Cossart excised the line of antigen–antibody precipitation, she saw the particles shown in Figure 1A, and in this ...

Detection of human parvovirus B19 DNA PCR products by RNA probe hybridization enzyme immunoassay.

We have developed an RNA probe hybridization enzyme immunoassay for detection of human parvovirus B19 PCR-amplified DNA. The assay is easy to perform and increases assay sensitivity without the added inconvenience and risk of false-positive results associated with nested PCR.

Development of a hypersensitive detection method for human parvovirus B19 DNA.

A new detection method for human parvovirus B19 DNA was established using PCR coupled with a hybridization protection assay. The amplified product was detected using acridinium ester-labeled DNA probes. By this method, a few copies of B19 DNA were detected in human serum albumin.

Detection of Human Parvovirus B19 Markers in Blood Samples of Donors

Background and Aims: Human parvovirus B19, a member of the parvoviridae family, with single-stranded DNA is a very minute non-enveloped virus. B 19 virus is mostly transmitted via the respiratory tract but some studies have been reported which B19 virus can be transmitted through blood and/or blood products. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of B19 among blood donors in Tehra...
