Quantifying and interpreting inequality of surgical site infections among operating rooms

چکیده

The incidence of surgical site infection differs among operating rooms (ORs). However, cost effectiveness interventions targeting ORs depends on counts. purpose this study was to quantify the inequality counts ORs. We performed a single-centre historical cohort elective cases spanning 160-week period from May 2017 2020, identifying within 90 days using International Classification Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification diagnosis codes. used Gini index measure infections As reference, for household disposable income in US 0.39, and 0.31 Canada. There were 3,148 (3.67%) 85,744 studied. 20% 57 with most least accounted 44% (99% confidence interval [CI], 36 52) 5% CI, 2 8), respectively. 0.40 0.50), which is comparable US. more minutes (Spearman correlation ? = 0.68; P < 0.001), but generally not total (? 0.11; 0.43). Moderately long (3.3 4.8 hr) had large effect, having greater incidences infection, while being so as have just one case per day OR. substantially 557 observed combinations OR specialty (Gini 0.85; 99% 0.81 0.88). Inequality substantial caused by both cases. due principally

Operating theatre quality and prevention of surgical site infections

Surgical site infections (SSI) account for 14% to 17% of all hospital-acquired infections and 38% of nosocomial infections in surgical patients. SSI remain a substantial cause of morbidity and death, possibly because of the larger numbers of elderly surgical patients or those with a variety of chronic and immunocompromising conditions, and emergence of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. Facto...

Operating room environment and surgical site infections in arthroplasty procedures

BACKGROUND The rate of surgical site infections (SSI) is strongly influenced by operating room quality, which is determined by the structural features of the facility and its systems and by the management and behavior of healthcare workers. The aim of the present study was to assess microbial contamination in the operating room during hip- and knee-replacement procedures, the behavior of operat...

New surgical techniques and surgical site infections.

Technologic advances in surgery include a trend toward less invasive procedures, driven by potential benefits to patients and by health-care economics. These less invasive procedures provide infection control personnel opportunities for direct involvement in outcomes measurement.

Minimizing surgical-site infections.

Primitive ancestors of Homo sapiens and their colonizing bacteria have coevolved for approximately 500,000 years; some experts estimate that the total number of human cells is 1013 and the total number of colonizing microbes is 1014. Despite this 10-to-1 inequity, the balance of power is influenced by an intact human immune system and the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes. Operative pr...

Surgical Site Infections

BACKGROUND Surgical site infection (SSI) rates are publicly reported as quality metrics and increasingly used to determine financial reimbursement. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the volume-outcome relationship as well as the year-to-year stability of performance rankings following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery and hip arthroplasty. RESEARCH DESIGN We performed a retrospective cohort s...
