Quality considerations on the pharmaceutical applications of fused deposition modeling 3D printing

3D printing, and particularly fused deposition modeling (FDM), has rapidly brought the possibility of personalizing drug therapies to forefront pharmaceutical research media attention. Applications for this technology, described in published articles, are expected grow significantly 2020. Where we on path, what needs be done develop a FDM 2.0 process make personalized medicines available patients? Based literature analysis, manuscript aims answer these questions highlight critical technical aspects as an emerging technology manufacturing safe, high-quality oral products. In collaborative paper, experts from different fields contribute strategies ensuring quality starting materials discuss design phase, printer hardware software, process, environment resulting products, perspectives both patients operators.
