Applications of quadratic D-forms to generalized quadratic forms
In this paper, we study generalized quadratic forms over a division algebra with involution of the first kind in characteristic two. For this, we associate to every generalized quadratic from a quadratic form on its underlying vector space. It is shown that this form determines the isotropy behavior and the isometry class of generalized quadratic forms.

Bitmap images of arbitrary dimension may be formally perceived as unions of m-dimensional boxes aligned with respect to a rectangular grid in R. Cohomology and homology groups are well known topological invariants of such sets. Cohomological operations, such as the cup product, provide higher-order algebraic topological invariants, especially important for digital images of dimension higher tha...
متن کاملA Combinatorial Method for Computing Steenrod Squares
We present here a combinatorial method for computing cup-i products and Steenrod squares of a simplicial set X. This method is essentially based on the determination of explicit formulae for the component morphisms of a higher diagonal approximation (i.e., a family of morphisms measuring the lack of commutativity of the cup product on the cochain level) in terms of face operators of X. A genera...
متن کاملMinimax Problems Related to Cup Powers and Steenrod Squares
If F is a family of mod 2 k-cycles in the unit n-ball, we lower bound the maximal volume of any cycle in F in terms of the homology class of F in the space of all cycles. We give examples to show that these lower bounds are fairly sharp. This paper is about minimax estimates for the volumes of cycles in complicated families. The simplest example of a minimax problem is a classical result about ...
