Pulsed Shortwave Therapy in Cervical Osteoarthritis: an NSAID- Controlled, Randomized Clinical Trial

چکیده
Abstract Assess treatment superiority of pulsed shortwave therapy (PSWT) against COX-2 NSAID therapy, in reducing disability and pain due to cervical osteoarthritis. Two hundred chronic suffers (average duration about 2 years) diagnosed with osteoarthritis by radiological imaging were randomized into one two arms: treatment; etoricoxib 60 mg/day for 4 weeks; or PSWT worn 24 h/day weeks. The primary outcome measure was the 4-week score on Neck Disability Index (NDI), a 10-question assessment 50-point scale. Secondary measures included (at rest during activity) measured visual analog scale (VAS) 0–100 mm, dose count rescue medication (paracetamol) use, satisfaction rating. These scores compared across arms assess superiority. After weeks treatment, subjects both study reported statistically significant ( p < 0.0001) reductions NDI, final 11.24-NSAID 9.34-PSWT, VAS , 30.08-NSAID; 22.76-PSWT, activity 36.40-NSAID; 27.42-PSWT. absolute reduction from baseline NDI significantly greater arm than (3.66 points; 95% CI 2.3 5.02; 0.0001). Similarly, (10.89 mm; 6.90 14.87; 0.0001; 12.05 7.76 16.33; 0.0001, respectively). used 50% less medication. Eleven adverse effects zero arm. Both treatments resulted improvements quality life (NDI) resulting However, intervention showed superior all when no effects. Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03542955).

Pulsed shortwave treatment in women with knee osteoarthritis: a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
BACKGROUND Several forms of conservative treatment have been the focus of many recent studies in knee osteoarthritis (OA). Among these techniques, the application of pulsed shortwave (PSW) treatment has been widely used, but the optimal dose and application time have not been well established. Objective The purposes of this study were: (1) evaluate the effect of PSW treatment in different doses...
متن کاملPulsed electromagnetic fields in knee osteoarthritis: a double blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial
OBJECTIVES This trial aimed to test the effectiveness of a wearable pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) device in the management of pain in knee OA patients. METHODS In this randomized [with equal randomization (1:1)], double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, patients with radiographic evidence of knee OA and persistent pain higher than 40 mm on the visual analog scale (VAS) were rec...
متن کاملThe Effect of Hydroxychloroquine on Symptoms of Knee Osteoarthritis: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disorder of articular cartilage and is the most common type of arthritis in the elderly. There are only a few reports regarding the use of Hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Methods: To investigate the effects of Hydroxychloroquine on the symptoms of mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis (Kellgren and Lawrence grade II and II...
متن کاملExercise therapy in hip osteoarthritis--a randomized controlled trial.
BACKGROUND Roughly one in ten persons in the industrialized world suffers from hip osteoarthritis, a disease for which there is no cure. The goal of conservative therapy is to relieve symptoms, preferably with methods that let patients assume responsibility for their own treatment, e.g., physical training. METHOD In a randomized controlled trial, we studied the effectiveness of twelve weeks o...
