Public Health Needs the Public Trust: A Pandemic Retrospective

The COVID crisis of the past three years has greatly impacted stakeholder relationships between scientists, health providers, policy makers, pharmaceutical industry employees, and public. Lockdowns restrictions civil liberties strained an already fraught relationship public with scientists also seen as complicit in providing justification for abrogation liberties. This was compounded by suppression open debate over contentious topics interest a violation core bioethical principles embodied Nuremberg Code. Overall, policies chosen during pandemic have had corrosive impact on trust, which is observable surveys consumer behaviour. While loss trust difficult to remedy, antidotes are accountability transparency. narrative review presents overview key issues that motivated distrust ends suggested remedies. Scientific norms must be restored order rebuild vital they serve.
