Public Health Effects of Radioactive Airborne Effluents from Nuclear and Coal-Fired Power Plant

چکیده
It has been well known that nuclear power plant and coal-fired release some amount of radioactive materials during their normal operations. The purpose this study was to compare radiation exposure doses the public as a consequence airborne effluents released from plants under operation. NRCDose3 used estimate gaseous its operation while CAP88-PC calculate living around plant. results showed were less than those regulatory annual limits. Effective dose by external exposure, skin equivalent dose, organ 2.93 × 10−4 mSv/y, 2.90 10−3 1.78 10−2 respectively. On contrary, corresponding effective 1.13 5.33 1.17 10−1

Quantification of radionuclides and associated radiological risk estimation of coal combustion residues from a South African coal-fired power plant
Background: Radionuclides occur in coal combustion residues, such as fly ash and bottom ash, which are by-products of coal combustion. They pose potential radiological risks to people present in the surrounding areas. Materials and Methods: Gamma spectrometry was performed to determine the radionuclide activity concentrations in a coal-driven power plant located in the Limpopo province, South A...

Radiation doses from airborne effluents of model coal-fired and nuclear power plants (1000 megawatts electric) are compared. Assuming a 1 percent ash release to the atmosphere (Environmental Protection Agency regulation) and 1 part per million of uranium and 2 parts per million of thorium in the coal (approximately the U.S. average), population doses from the coal plant are typically higher tha...
متن کاملRadionuclide emissions from a coal-fired power plant.
Current study concerns measurement of radioactivity levels in areas surrounding a 2420 MW thermal power plant fueled predominantly by bituminous coal. The concentrations of (226)Ra, (232)Th and (40)K in onsite bottom-ash were found to be 139 Bq/kg, 108 Bq/kg and 291 Bq/kg, respectively, the levels for these radiolnuclides in soil decreasing with distance from the power plant. At the plant perim...
متن کاملRadioactive iodine and radioactive cesium: two important radio-hazard elements in post nuclear power plant crisis
The present nuclear leakage crisis from Japan is a topic to be discussed in present public health. In radiology, the leaked radioactive elements are considered hazard. Here, the author briefly reviews and discusses on two important radio-hazard elements in post nuclear power plant crisis, radioactive iodine and radioactive cesium. Based on previous similar nuclear crisis in Russia, it ...
متن کاملAdsorption of Inorganic Contaminants in Ponded Effluents from Coal-fired Power Plants
The objectives of this study were [1] to conduct some experimental tests of the surface precipitation adsorption model, and [2] to work on the development of a simple yet widely applicable approach to modelling adsorption of inorganic ions on oxide surfaces. The latter represents the first portion of our continuing effort to develop a data base for adsorption of inorganic contaminants in oxide ...
