Pubertal growth in height, sitting height and leg length in achondroplasia

Background: Children with achondroplasia (ACH) appear to lack a pubertal growth spurt in height.Aim To explore the height and its segments sitting leg length, large sample of ACH cases using curve modelling.Subjects methods: Height were measured longitudinally children, data analysed SITAR (SuperImposition by Translation Rotation) model, which estimates mean random effects for individuals defining differences size, timing intensity.Results: Out 402 85 boys 75 girls aged 7–20 years had respectively 529 454 measurements height, length calculated difference. analysis identified peaks velocity at 13.3 11.3 girls, peak velocities 4.3 4.4 cm/year. Mean was 3.0 cm/year, but showed no peak. The models explained 92% 99% cross-sectional variance.Conclusion: children do experience puberty, only half that control children. is due entirely spurt.
