چکیده
Abstract Insulin concentrations are variable in bovine colostrum (5 to 263 µg insulin/L) and its effects on gastrointestinal function neonatal calves unknown. The objective of this study was determine if varying insulin would influence intestinal carbohydrases Holstein bulls. Calves (n = 26; 49.11 kg, SD 3.24) were removed from their dams after calving. They fed 3 meals (7% BW or 3.10 ± 0.02 L) at 2, 14 26 hours birth containing one concentrations: basal (16.8 µg/L; n 8), supplemental either a 5× (83.4 10) 10× (167.5 8) increase respective concentrations. At 30 hours, the animals killed, tract for mucosal scrapings duodenum, proximal jejunum, ileum. Intestinal assayed following brush border carbohydrases: maltase, isomaltase, lactase glucoamylase. Data analyzed using MIXED procedure SAS with treatment dam parity modeled as fixed effects. There no effect (P > 0.05) isomaltase glucoamylase However, there linear < jejunal activity (Unit/g jejunum U/g protein) increasing amount inclusion. These data indicate that supplementation has minimal activities starch degrading enzymes, but increases calves.

Effect of lactation on the decline of brush border lactase activity in neonatal pigs.
It has been shown that during the early phase of lactation porcine milk contains high concentrations of hormones and growth factors. The aim of the present investigation was to examine the hypothesis that the temporal coordination of intestinal maturation in piglets can be extrinsically regulated through changes in the composition of milk during the suckling period. Gut morphology and the ontog...
متن کاملEffect of harmaline on rat intestinal brush border sucrase activity.
The effect of harmaline, a plant alkaloid has been studied on rat intestinal brush border sucrase activity. Stimulation of sucrase activity by Na+ was found to be pH-dependent. At neutral pH, 20 mM Na+ stimulated sucrase activity by reducing K(m) by 30%, while at acidic pH (5.2), the activity increased 4-fold compared to Na+-free enzyme. At 1.0 mM, harmaline markedly inhibited (67%) the enzyme ...
متن کاملEffect of fish oil supplementation and forage source on performance, rumen fermentation, nutrient digestion and chewing behaviour of Holstein bulls
Background: Fat supplementation in ruminants ration often adversely affect dry matter intake (DMI), rumen fermentation and nutrients digestion. Basal diet ingredients is an undeniable determinant of ruminants responses including performance, chewing behaviour and nutrient digestibility to fat supplementation. Objective: Current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Fish oil (FO) supplem...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Localization of Ghrelin in Testicular Tissues of Holstein Bulls
Ghrelin, a 28-amino acid acylated peptide, was identified as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor and its role in reproduction has recently been established. It is believed that the site of ghrelin expression in testes may indicate its role in local regulation. This study investigated the immunohistochemical (IHC) localization of ghrelin in Holstein bull testi...
