چکیده

Abstract Direct feed microbials (DFM) are probiotics often fed to feedlot cattle offered improve rumen fermentation and/or intestinal health, thus benefiting animal health and performance. We hypothesized that DFM supplementation would nutrient digestibility in finishing Bos indicus cattle. On day -1, 30 rumen-cannulated Nellore bulls were blocked based on initial body weight (BW; 350 ± 35.0 kg) 1 of pens and, within each block, animals randomly assigned to: (1) Control: corn-based diet without (n = 10), (2) EFSC: CONT + gram/head per a Enterococcus faecium Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Probios Precise, Chr. Hansen A/S, Horsholm, Denmark; n (3) BLBS: 2 grams/head Bacillus licheniformis subtilis (Bovacillus, A/S; 10). The experimental period lasted 35 days, while between days 33, total fecal collection was performed 34 35, feces fluid collected at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 h post-feeding for ammonia, VFA, pH determination. All data analyzed as orthogonal contrasts using SAS: vs. EFSC BLBS. Inclusion or type did not affect either ruminal parameters (P ≥ 0.40). In contrast, supplementation, regardless type, yielded reduced mean ammonia concentration (14.7 15.7 mg/L; P 0.05). Moreover, concentrations decreased 3 6 ≤ 0.04), but also less BSBL < 0.01). summary, proteolysis, with no effect other diet.

Effect of direct-fed microbials on performance, diet digestibility, and rumen characteristics of Holstein dairy cows.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of feeding direct-fed microbial (DFM) products containing Lactobacillus acidophilus and Propionibacteria freudenreichii on the performance, nutrient digestibility, and rumen fermentation of Holstein dairy cows in midlactation. Experiments were conducted from February to May 2003. Cows were fed 1 of 3 dietary treatments: 1) 1 x 10(9) colony...

Effects of bacterial direct-fed microbials on ruminal fermentation, blood variables, and the microbial populations of feedlot cattle.

A study was conducted to determine whether bacterial direct-fed microbials (DFM) could be used to minimize the risk of acidosis in feedlot cattle receiving high concentrate diets. Six ruminally cannulated steers, previously adapted to a high concentrate diet, were used in a double 3 x 3 Latin square to study the effects of DFM on feed intake, ruminal pH, and ruminal and blood characteristics. S...

Investigating the Effects of Cadmium on Rumen Microbial Fermentation and Nutrient Digestibility Using Gas Production

Effects of different levels of cadmium (0.1, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 mg/l of culture medium) were evaluated using gas production technique. In the glass vials used to measure gas production 30 mg of buffered rumen fluid (2:1 ratio of rumen fluid: buffer) poured in glass and cultured at 38.6 temperature. Volume and pressure of produced gas were measured with syringes and digital pressur...

Effects of Plant Herb Combination Supplementation on Rumen Fermentation and Nutrient Digestibility in Beef Cattle

Four rumen-fistulated crossbred beef cattle (Brahman native) were randomly assigned according to a 4×4 Latin square design experiment to be fed plant herb supplements in their concentrate mixture. The treatments were: without herb supplementation (Control), lemongrass meal supplementation at 100 g/d (L), lemongrass meal supplementation at 100 g/d plus peppermint powder at 10 g/d (LP), and lemon...
