Pseudo‐dynamic hybrid simulations of steel eccentrically braced frames equipped with cast steel replaceable modular yielding links

Previous studies have underlined the importance of establishing a database high-fidelity benchmark experimental test results under random loading histories such as earthquake excitations for both existing structural systems well newly proposed ones. Such are useful understanding limitations previously developed numerical models, proposing new models more recently systems, better assessing ultra-low cycle fatigue (ULCF) life energy dissipative components, and improving protocols used element assessments or developments model. This paper presents from pseudo-dynamic hybrid simulations on steel eccentrically braced frames (EBF) equipped with novel cast replaceable modular yielding links. The first set experiments carried out four-story EBF, first-floor link physically tested in laboratory. second performed two-story EBF where second-floor is laboratory, while considering axial loads due to imbalanced distribution seismic weight building. Each building structure subjected three Maximum Credible Event (MCE) level earthquakes. A framework performing EBFs response captured single degree freedom control system, without loads. substructuring strategy conjunction modeling approach integration module. confirm effectiveness simulation framework, which can be adopted similar studies. Two capturing links using simplified advanced approach. calibrated incremental reversed-cyclic results, then refined results. effects this calibration improvement quantified through critically comparing prediction different parameters before after model captures physical mechanism provides accurate compared phenomenological truss force-deformation. remaining ULCF experimentally investigated having sustained MCE earthquakes, indicates large reserve ductility capacity than twice required plastic rotation events.
