The signature of shear-induced anisotropy in granular media
This paper presents a micro-mechanical study on the characteristics of shear-induced anisotropy in granular media. Based on three-dimensional Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations, the distinct features associated with the evolution of internal granular structure and different anisotropy sources during drained/undrained shearing of granular samples are carefully examined. The study finds th...
متن کاملIron-cemented layers in putting green soils
Two-tiered putting green profiles feature a sand root zone that sits above a layer of gravel, creating a textural boundary where water is perched or preferentially retained (6). The greater the difference in particle sizes, the more water is retained in the fine-textured layer above (8). Hard, brittle, cemented layers have been observed to form at textural boundaries in two-tiered putting green...
متن کاملQuotient BCI-algebras induced by pseudo-valuations
In this paper, we study pseudo-valuations on a BCI-algebra and obtain some related results. The relation between pseudo-valuations and ideals is investigated. We use a pseudo-metric induced by a pseudovaluation to introduce a congruence relation on a BCI-algebra. We define the quotient algebra induced by this relation and prove that it is also a BCI-algebra and study its properties.
متن کاملThe Initial and Induced Fabric Anisotropy of Granular Materials
A granular material is most likely to possess an initial anisotropic structure due to the depositional process or the previous stress history. There is also induced fabric anisotropy during shearing. Concerning the significant influence of fabric anisotropy on the stress-strain behaviour of a granular material, in-depth investigation on the two kinds of fabric anisotropy is essential. Initial f...
متن کاملInvestigation of Shear Strength Anisotropy of c- &phi Soils
Cohesive-frictional soils are widely used in the construction of embankment structures and due to the method of construction, i.e. applying compactive efforts in the vertical direction in these cases, the occurrence of anisotropy in the soil strength and permeability seems to be inevitable. In this study, attempts have been made to evaluate the shear strength of c-f soils through modifying a l...
