چکیده
Introduction: Mondia whitei (Hook.f.) Skeels is rich in antioxidant activity and known for its nutritional medicinal uses. This study evaluated the protective effect of M. fruit against cadmium-induced hepatic damage rats. Methods: Twenty-five albino (Wistar strain) rats were randomly assigned into five equal groups. Rats group I served as control, II intoxicated with 5 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) cadmium chloride (CdCl2 ) days via an oral route, while groups III, IV, V respectively administered b.w. CdCl2 co-treated 70 b.w silymarin, 250 500 aqueous extract (AEMW) 7 days. Results: Cadmium caused a significant (P<0.05) increase concentration liver well function markers such alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), bilirubin. In addition, elevation level malondialdehyde (MDA) reduction nitric oxide (NO) status noted -exposed rats; degeneration congested portal area also noted. These changes were, however, reduced cadmium-intoxicated or AEMW. Conclusion: Our result suggests that AEMW exerts effects -induced rats, this might be due to presence phytochemicals plant capable scavenging oxidative stress by cadmium.
